Crochet a festive Christmas Garland with this free crochet pattern!

I’ve made it a point over the past few years to start incorporating some handmade items into my holiday and seasonal decor and I’m obsessed! I love it so much that seasonal decor has become one of my favorite things to crochet!

I’ve been on a big crochet garland kick this year (see my Easter Bunny Crochet Garland and my Rustic Pumpkins Garland for more evidence of this current obsession) and I thought why not continue the theme for Christmas?!

The Christmas Tree and Star Crochet Garland pattern will make a fabulous addition to any fireplace mantel, wall, or you can even string the pieces individually to use as ornaments on the Christmas tree!

The Details

The garland is quick to work up and is a great stash buster since it doesn’t use a lot of yarn! I used scrap yarn for mine in fairly traditional Christmas colors, but you could take this in any direction with color (My 9 year old has been asking for one in “mermaid colors” to hang in her bedroom and I honestly think it could work, haha!)

Crochet Christmas Tree Garland Free Crochet Pattern

This crochet Christmas garland is constructed in the same style as my other garland designs: each piece is made of two flat panels, stitched together and lightly stuffed. Just like with the colors, you can play around with the types of yarn or even adjust the layout of the garland. It’s totally customizable!

I know the holidays may look a little different this year, but I hope you and yours find a way to keep the warmth and magic of the season alive. And I hope this crochet Christmas garland adds a little fun to your festivities! Best wishes for a Merry Everything and a Happy Always!

Making the Garland

  • With a corresponding yarn and size G hook, ch 250. Fasten off.
  • Arrange tree and star pieces evenly along the chain, making sure the right side of each piece is facing front. I did 3 trees and 4 stars, but you can customize the layout!
  • Use a tapestry needle to thread a small length of yarn through the back of the tree or star near the top, then thread it through the chain where you would like to attach the piece (this keeps the piece from sliding along the chain). Check that the piece will hang correctly, then fasten it securely.
  • Repeat for each piece and you’re done! Happy Holidays!
