I’ve always thought spring was the perfect time for a little home decor refresh. The weather is starting to warm up, flowers are blooming and the sun is peeking through the clouds making everything feel lighter and brighter. It’s a great time to take a cue from the changes going on outdoors and freshen up your indoor space as well.

As a busy mom, I’m all about the small changes that make a big impact. As a crocheter, I’m always looking for ways I can incorporate my craft into my home decor. Throw pillows check all the boxes! They are fast and easy to make, don’t use a ton of yarn, and look fabulous on your couch! I’ve rounded up eight of the BEST crocheted pillow patterns on the web that will breathe a little fresh air into your tired winter furnishings. Many are beginner friendly and all are FREE!

1. Funky Fringe Pillow – Megmade With Love

I absolutely love everything Meg from Megmade with Love creates! Her style is effortlessly boho chic (<- I just made that up) and this pillow is a perfect example of it! Made with only HDC and bobbles with a bit of fringe to give it some sass, this pillow is the epitome of cool.

2. Grain Sack Crochet Pillow – The Knotted Nest

I had to include this little beauty because it’s the pillow that started my current obsession with crochet pillows! I designed this Grain Sack Pillow pattern to mimic the farmhouse look that is so popular right now. This pattern uses only one stitch (herringbone half double crochet) and simple color changes so it’s very beginner friendly!

3. Mud Cloth Pillow – Make and Do Crew

I mean….does it get any cooler that this?! Mud cloth is actually a type of fabric that is made by using mud as a “dye” to create graphic, tribal patterns, but this pattern uses a clever mix of simple single crochet and embroidery to get a similar look. This is another pillow that would be great for beginners or someone new to reading patterns!

4. Extreme Crochet Cushion – All About Ami

Love the look of those deliciously plump arm-knitted roving wool blankets, but don’t want to buy a huge quantity of expensive yarn? This cushion is the perfect compromise! It uses just 1lb of merino wool and uses back-loop-only slip stitch in continuous rounds to create a beautiful knit-like effect. This one does require a jumbo 40mm hook, but, honestly, I’d love the excuse to buy one of those suckers! Ha!

5. Simple Geometric Throw Pillow – Sigoni Macaroni

Calling all beginners! This pattern is the perfect place to start if you’re new to crocheting pillows. It’s all single crochet with just a few easy peasy color changes. The modern color block effect is so eye catching, no one would ever guess this pillow is so simple to make!

6. Cable Loop Crocheted Pillow – 5 Little Monsters

This Cable Loop Crochet Pillow is another stunning example of using a simple technique to create a dramatic effect. I loooooove the look of cabled crochet, but it can be time consuming and cumbersome. This pattern uses only single crochets and chains to get a similar feel with much less frustration!

7. Ombre Throw Pillow Cover – Heart Hook Home

This gorgeous throw pillow uses Red Heart Ombre yarn to get that beautiful gradual fade without worrying about tricky color changes. The pattern comes in two sizes and has instructions to add an optional zipper. It’s worked in a continuous spiral so BONUS! there’s minimal seaming!

8. Fluffy Bunny Crochet Pillow – Briana K Designs

What spring pillow round up would be complete without a sweet little bunny pillow? This adorable modern take on the mascot of spring is actually made up of only single crochets. The pattern includes links to helpful color change tutorials if this is your first color work project as well as a how-to for making your own faux fur pom pom. Side note: How have I never thought of using faux fur pom poms for anything other that hat toppers?! Brilliant!

And those are my picks for the BEST free crochet pillow patterns to make this spring. I hope you found something you can’t wait to get on your hook! Happy Making!
